What we can learn from World Youth Day 2011

We are so blessed to live in a time of World Youth Day.  A week where the whole church celebrates, teaches and learns from the youth about the Catholic faith and the word of Christ.  What can we, those who are a part of the every day faith community learn about this event?  Let's just focus on the obvious for a second: the church realizes, and so should we, that in twenty years this youth will be running the church.  The diocese offices, the catechism classrooms, everything will be run by what we now see as the 'youth'.  Is that scary to think about?  I don't think so.  Look at the big picture right now.  There were over a million people at this years World Youth Day in Madrid.  Some are saying upwards of 1.5 million.  All young people!  All excited and willing to live up to the faith and doing it the only way they know how: by loving Christ with all their heart.  This should show us that our youth is thirsty or knowledge.  Let's help them quench that thirst!

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water flowing from the side of Christ, wash me.
